So, You Want to Sell Products Online?

Hi, LaurenceDotComputer here. I'm a human, not a big business. More of a solo-preneur. Whether you're looking to dropship on Amazon, whitelabel, create your own product, launch on eBay, stock an Etsy store, or build your own webshop, the hardest part is finding a niche that isn't already saturated.

That's what this is. I built Product Gap after studying machine learning at HarvardX, and honestly? You've stumbled across something almost nobody knows about yet. Right now, it's basically just me and you.

Here's the idea: I trained recommendation engines on hundreds of millions of Amazon reviews to figure out what products customers want to buy but can't find. Those gaps are your opportunity. Use them to find your niche. My theory is that these gaps don't just exist on Amazon. The data comes from the world's biggest marketplace, so it's highly likely these insights transfer to eBay, Etsy, and your own webstore too.

And because I believe in full transparency: each category page shows exactly how many people have bought that report. So you can see for yourself whether the insights are still fresh or getting crowded.

Ranking Performance

How strongly does the AI model recommend this product? Scored 0-100 within each category, based on the weighted average of how highly it ranks across all users. A high score means the model consistently places it near the top.

Multiple Opportunities, Not Just One

You'll often see a cluster of products scoring in a similar range at the top. That means there's a whole segment of unmet demand. The best niches have several high-scoring products, signalling many real gaps in the market you can build around.

How It Works

1

Recommendation Engine

Matrix factorization trained on millions of real product reviews identifies what customers want to buy next.

2

Four-Metric Scoring

Each product gets a Ranking Performance score (how strongly the AI recommends it), an Opportunity Score (ranking penalised by existing purchases), a Purchases count, and a Gap Score (opportunity weighted by category size across all 33 categories).

3

AI Clustering

Products are grouped into AI-named categories using latent factor analysis, revealing hidden market segments.

I analysed millions of product reviews using machine learning to understand what customers wanted and how they made buying decisions. Each product is scored on three metrics: Ranking Performance (how often it appears in the Top 200 rankings), Ranking Performance (how highly it typically ranks), and Opportunity Score (strong rankings penalised by existing purchases). Products the model loves but few people buy surface as the biggest opportunities. These insights give sellers using my tool a strong competitive advantage.
